This episode explores how our partners’ behaviours may be shaped by their personal histories, emotional experiences, fears and unmet needs. It invites us to move beyond assumptions and labels, becoming more curious about the person beneath the behaviour. We explore how to ask, listen and seek to understand without excusing harmful behaviour or abandoning healthy boundaries. Through greater empathy, curiosity and accountability, we can create opportunities for deeper connection and more meaningful communication.

What if there is more to your partner's behaviour than you can see?
In this episode, we explore how our personal histories, emotional experiences and past relationships can shape the way we respond to love, conflict and connection. We consider what might lie beneath behaviours such as defensiveness, withdrawal and the struggle to express our feelings.
Rather than making assumptions or reducing our partners to labels, we are invited to approach them with curiosity, ask questions and listen with the intention of understanding. We also explore an important distinction: understanding your partner does not mean excusing harmful behaviour or abandoning healthy boundaries.
Through greater empathy, curiosity and accountability, we can begin to see beyond the behaviour and deepen our understanding of the person we have chosen to love.
As James 1:19 reminds us: “Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.” (NKJV)
This week’s reflection: What might you not yet understand about the person you love?
Your practice: Ask instead of assuming. Listen without immediately correcting. Make room for your partner's experience, even when it differs from your own.
